Choosing Ideal Nursing Bras And Maternity Bras
Nursing bras and maternity bras really are a necessity during the first few months of breastfeeding. An ideal nursing bra or maternity bra has front flap fasteners that can be opened with one hand (remember that you have to hold your baby with the other hand!), they have non-elastic straps for maximum support, and to allow air circulation to your sore (and sometimes cracked) nipples make sure the nursing bras cups are plastic free and made from cotton.
Some women choose to wear maternity bras instead of “jumping ahead” to nursing bras during their pregnancy (skipping the mat bra saves some expenses). You will have to start thinking about buying a nursing bra at some point if you’ve been wearing a maternity bra during your pregnancy. The best time to purchase a nursing bra is about two weeks before your due date. It is around this time that your breasts will be very near to the size that they will be during your nursing months.
Choose a bra cup size that comfortably supports the breasts underside. You should start off with buying at least two nursing bras, some women choose to buy firmer, better support bras for during the day and soft cotton ones to bed for nighttime breastfeeding. Your breasts will be uncomfortable and heavy so a nice soft bra for bed is best.
Most bra companies now carry a wonderful selection of pretty and lacy nursing bras and maternity bras. This really helps some women to feel more feminine during their breastfeeding months.
Please keep in mind that some bra companies still sell nursing bras with underwires, and it is now well documented that underwires do cause breast infections in breastfeeding mothers. So please try to avoid purchasing a nursing bra that come with underwires. Some very reputable companies carry very good nursing and maternity bras: Olga bras, Playtex bras, Bravado nursing bra, etc. Just remember to check any brand to make sure that there is no underwire.
